Do You Use A Nightlight?

Recently I vacationed with two of my grandchildren at our family's mountain lodge. I noticed that the bedtime routine for Gabriel (6) and Claire (almost 4) included the assurance from Mom and Dad that they would leave the nightlight on.
Somehow leaving a little bright spot on in the corner of an otherwise dark bedroom makes the space seem not so scary. The children also requested that the door be left open a crack for additional light. Light seems to chase away the fears that tend to come in the dark.
Today in my Bible time I read Psalm 27:1: "The LORD is my light and my salvation--whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life--of whom shall I be afraid?"
Please join me today in making that a personal statement. The Lord is my light and my salvation. It's not that He gives light; He is light. He doesn't give salvation; He is salvation.
Jesus is the light within me, He's the light around me, and He's the light reflected from me.
In all the of the increasing darkness of the world these days, His light comforts me, keeps the fears away, and illuminates my day-to-day path through the scary stuff.
Lord, thank you for rescuing me from the the darkness in my own heart and mind, and now also from the growing darkness in the world. Shine in me and through me today!
